Oh, why isn't there a Community Centre for People Who Need a Little Something?
If people would only tell the truth about the way they felt,
it would be busy all the time.
There could be folding chairs arranged in groups, people sitting there saying
"I don't know. I just wanted to come here for a while."
I FIRST READ THIS QUOTE IN THE NOVEL "OPEN HOUSE" WHEN I WAS 25 AND I REMEMBER WISHING SO BADLY FOR A PLACE LIKE THIS
A place where we could be unapologetic about our need for connection.
A place where people would listen to each other without judgement.
A place where people freely shared their lessons and their stories with one another.
A place where people would support one another in their pursuit of happyness, encourage each other when they faltered, and cheer each other on when they succeeded - with pure, genuine joy.
AND NOW - I OFFER YOU THIS PLACE
an intense feeling of deep affection.
“this community fills you with intense feelings of love”
It’s not a luxury. It’s not just for some people.
We all deserve love – no matter who you are or what you’ve done.
THE LOVE MOB IS YOUR PLACE TO GET LOVE AND TO GIVE LOVE.
But more importantly, it’s your community, your tribe, your cheering section.
We are teachers and students, friends and cheerleaders, empathizers and sympathizers.
We are all at different points on the same path
and we joyfully grab the coattails of those in front of us.
We reach back lovingly to those behind us.
We share the lessons we’ve learned, the tools that have helped us, our despair and our triumphs with one another
with no shame and no judgement.
Above all, we share our stories. We embrace the belief that to be truly happy, we must love our life story;
no matter how sad, tragic, or unspectacular we think it is.
Our stories are our swagger.
Our stories are what make us who we are.
Our stories give us the unique lessons we teach each other.
And as we support one another on this path, we are reminded that we are not alone, that no struggle is unique, that there is a way through every block, that we all need love and we all have love to give.
